Welfare Facilities Are Not Free to Run

Every construction site needs welfare: offices, canteens, drying rooms, toilets, heating, lighting and IT. On sites without a mains connection — or before one is established — that load is typically carried by diesel generators running through the working day.

Diesel is expensive, noisy, requires refuelling logistics, and produces exactly the emissions that contractors are increasingly required to report and reduce. Vinci, like most Tier 1 contractors, has firm carbon reduction commitments that reach down to site compound level.

Most solar arrays are designed to stay put for twenty-five years. This one was designed to be taken down and moved.

Fitting solar to temporary cabins offsets part of that load directly. The interesting engineering constraint is that the installation must be demountable — designed to be removed cleanly at the end of the project and redeployed to the next one.

Temporary Installation

Solar PV to modular site accommodation, designed for removal and redeployment.

Cabin-Mounted Solar PV

Photovoltaic installation to temporary site cabins serving welfare and office facilities.

Demountable Design

Fixings and connections designed so the system can be removed cleanly and redeployed to future sites.

Electrical Integration

Connection into the site’s temporary electrical arrangement with appropriate protection and isolation.

Diesel Offset

Generation reducing generator run hours and the fuel, noise and emissions that come with them.

The Site Compound Installation

What Vinci Got

Lower Fuel Costs

Reduced generator run hours across the life of the project, cutting diesel spend and refuelling logistics.

Site Carbon Reduction

Measurable emissions reduction at compound level, feeding directly into project carbon reporting.

Reusable Asset

A demountable system that transfers to the next project rather than being written off at completion.

Certified & Compliant

Installed and certified by NICEIC approved electricians to BS 7671, as temporary site installations require.

Solar for Construction & Temporary Works

We work regularly with principal contractors — Vinci, Sir Robert McAlpine, ISG, KIER, Rydon, Medas, Newry and Nobles among them — and site compound solar is a growing part of that relationship as carbon reporting requirements tighten.

Major projects across North Wales, Chester and the North West all run compounds with the same welfare loads. If you are tendering work where site carbon is scored, temporary solar is a straightforward and visible contribution.

Whatever your building type, we survey it, design for it and certify it. Talk to us about commercial solar panel installation, or browse the full solar portfolio.
