City-centre and urban commercial buildings bring shading, access and planning considerations that rural sites simply do not.
Urban commercial buildings are a different design problem to an open distribution centre roof. Surrounding buildings cast shade at different times of day and year, roof space is frequently shared with plant, and access for materials is constrained by city streets rather than a service yard.
Shading in particular has to be modelled rather than guessed. A single shaded module can drag down a whole string unless the array is designed with that in mind, which drives string layout and inverter selection.
Working with Nobles Construction, we delivered the rooftop installation at Phoenix Place with those constraints designed in from the start.
Commercial photovoltaics designed around shading, plant and constrained city access.
Commercial solar installed across the available roof area, laid out around existing rooftop plant.
String layout and inverter arrangement designed to limit the impact of surrounding buildings and rooftop obstructions.
Connection into the building’s distribution with protection, isolation and DNO notification.
MCS certification and full electrical documentation on completion.

Renewable generation for a commercial building in a dense urban setting.
An array designed around the actual shading conditions rather than a theoretical open roof.
Generation offsetting landlord or tenant electricity consumption during occupied hours.
Full certification and documentation appropriate to a commercial property asset.
Phoenix Place is student accommodation at 5 Prince Edwin Street, Liverpool L5 3AA, north of the city centre. Local landmarks include Liverpool Hope University’s Creative Campus, Liverpool John Moores University’s City Campus and Lime Street Station. These give context to the urban setting of this commercial solar panel installation in Liverpool.
Phoenix Place sits alongside our 54kWp installation at Central Docks in Liverpool — both within an hour of Queensferry via the M53 and the Wirral.
Liverpool, Birkenhead, Ellesmere Port and Chester form a dense commercial corridor on our doorstep. Urban solar in that corridor is routine work for us, shading constraints and all.
Whatever your building type, we survey it, design for it and certify it. Talk to us about commercial solar panel installation, or browse the full solar portfolio.
