Staff Wanted to Charge at Work

Iceland Foods runs its head office from Second Avenue on Deeside Industrial Park — one of the biggest employment sites in Flintshire, sitting between Sealand and the River Dee just off the A548. With hundreds of staff commuting in daily and EV ownership climbing fast, the company needed to give employees somewhere reliable to charge during the working day.

The requirement was straightforward to state and considerably harder to engineer: provide staff with the facility to charge while at work. That meant enough bays to matter, enough power to run them all simultaneously, and enough headroom left over that the site wouldn't need digging up again in three years' time.

This was never a job for a charger fitter. Twenty-one 22kW units drawing at once is close to half a megawatt of demand — a genuine electrical infrastructure project on a live, operational head-office site.

As NICEIC approved electrical contractors based in Queensferry, minutes up the road, we were well placed to design the supply as well as install the hardware — and to do it without disrupting a car park in daily use.

Design, Installation & Commissioning

Full turnkey delivery — from the incoming supply design through to commissioning and handover of every bay.

Electrical Design

Load assessment and full design for 21 simultaneous 22kW charge points, sized so every bay can run at once without compromising the site's existing supply.

New 630A Supply

A new 630A supply installed to a dedicated pillar — the backbone that makes 21-bay workplace EV charging viable on a single site.

21 × 22kW Chargers

Supply, installation and commissioning of 21 EV Box Business Line AC chargers across the staff car park, with usage reporting for facilities management.

Futureproofed Capacity

Deliberate spare capacity built into the pillar so additional EV charge points can be added later as a connection, not a rebuild.

The Installation in Deeside

Workplace charging bays installed and commissioned across the staff car park by our Deeside-based team.

What Iceland Foods Got

A workplace charging facility that works on day one and still has room to grow.

21 Bays, Live Together

Every charge point can deliver 22kW simultaneously — no queueing, no throttling, no first-come-first-served frustration for staff.

Room to Expand

The 630A pillar was sized with deliberate headroom, so adding further EV charge points is a connection exercise rather than a new supply.

A Genuine Staff Benefit

Employees charge at work instead of hunting for public chargers, supporting Iceland's own fleet and sustainability commitments.

Fully Certified

Designed, installed and commissioned by NICEIC approved electricians, with full electrical certification and DNO notification handled throughout.

Commercial EV Charging on Our Doorstep

Deeside Industrial Park sits on the Flintshire bank of the River Dee, a short run from our Queensferry base along the A548, with the A494 and the Flintshire Bridge linking it to Connah's Quay and the wider North Wales coast. Chester is around eight miles east. It's an area we work in constantly — alongside Broughton, Shotton, Garden City, Sealand and Hawarden.

That proximity matters on a project like this. Surveys happen quickly, deliveries are simple to coordinate, and if a client on Deeside Industrial Park needs us back on site, we're minutes away rather than hours. For businesses across Flintshire and Cheshire weighing up commercial EV charging installation, being local is a practical advantage, not a marketing line.
