Northern Latitude, Sound Economics
A common objection to solar in Scotland is daylight — or the perceived lack of it. The reality is more encouraging: photovoltaic panels generate from daylight rather than direct heat, and actually operate more efficiently at lower ambient temperatures.
Scotland does receive less annual irradiance than the south of England, so a given array produces somewhat less over a year. But the commercial case for a manufacturer rests on displaced cost, not on peak yield. If a plant consumes everything it generates at full commercial rate, the arithmetic works at Scottish latitudes just as it does at Welsh ones.
Glass manufacturing is among the most electrically intensive processes there is, so self-consumption is effectively total. Working with Grange, we delivered this installation in 2023, a year after the North Wales glass plant.
Industrial Installation in Scotland
Rooftop photovoltaics on an energy-intensive manufacturing site.
Rooftop Array
Photovoltaics installed across the manufacturing roof, laid out around plant, extraction and roof lights.
Structural Assessment
Roof capacity assessed and mounting specified for northern wind and snow loading.
Electrical Integration
Connection into the plant’s distribution, prioritising self-consumption by process load.
Production Maintained
Delivered without interrupting a continuous manufacturing process.
The Scottish Installation

What the Manufacturer Got
Displaced Commercial Rates
Generation consumed by process load, replacing electricity bought at full commercial price.
Carbon Reduction
Reduced grid consumption supporting the plant’s environmental reporting.
Specialist Contractor, Long Distance
Industrial solar expertise delivered several hundred miles from our base.
Certified Installation
MCS certified and NICEIC approved with full documentation.
Solar Across the UK, From North Wales
Scotland is the northern limit of our commercial reach, as Southampton is the southern. Between them we have delivered solar in Kettering, Bristol, Pontefract, Manchester, Liverpool, Norfolk and across North Wales.
Two glass manufacturing installations in successive years — one in North Wales, one in Scotland — reflect a genuine specialism in energy-intensive industry, where the numbers are strongest and the operational constraints tightest.
Whatever your building type, we survey it, design for it and certify it. Talk to us about commercial solar panel installation, or browse the full solar portfolio.
