Rooftop solar PV for a North Wales glass manufacturer, delivered with ESB and Grange Solar. Glass production is one of the most energy-intensive industries there is — which makes every kilowatt generated on the roof count twice, once on the bill and once on the carbon report.
Few sectors consume electricity like glass. Few sectors benefit more from generating some of it on site.
Glass manufacturing runs furnaces and forming lines that draw enormous, continuous electrical loads. For a plant of that kind, energy is not an overhead to be trimmed at the margins — it is one of the largest costs on the profit and loss account.
Working with ESB and Grange Solar, we delivered the rooftop photovoltaic installation at a North Wales glass manufacturing site. The attraction of solar for a manufacturer is self-consumption: because the plant is drawing heavily through exactly the hours the array is generating, virtually everything produced is used on site rather than exported.
That is the best-case economics for commercial solar. Every unit generated displaces a unit bought at full commercial rate, so payback is driven by avoided cost rather than export tariffs.
Working at height on a live manufacturing site, without interrupting production.
Installation of the photovoltaic array across the manufacturing roof, laid out around existing plant, roof lights and services.
Roof load capacity assessed and the mounting system specified to suit the industrial roof construction.
Connection into the site's existing electrical distribution, with protection, isolation and DNO notification handled throughout.
Installation phased and sequenced so manufacturing continued uninterrupted — a non-negotiable on a continuous-process site.

Generated electricity consumed directly on site, displacing power bought at commercial rates through the working day.
On-site renewable generation cuts Scope 2 emissions — increasingly important for manufacturers supplying larger customers with their own net zero targets.
Delivered around a live manufacturing operation with production continuing throughout.
MCS certified and NICEIC approved, with full electrical certification on completion.
North Wales has a serious industrial base that outsiders often overlook — from Deeside Industrial Park and Shotton through to Wrexham Industrial Estate, one of the largest in Europe, plus manufacturing across Flintshire, Wrexham and the Conwy valley.
From our Queensferry base we are minutes from Deeside Industrial Park via the A548 and within easy reach of Wrexham, Chester and the wider North West. For an industrial site, that proximity matters at survey stage and matters again if you ever need us back on site quickly.
Whatever your building type, we survey it, design for it and certify it. Talk to us about commercial solar panel installation, or browse the full solar portfolio.
