In-roof photovoltaics sit flush within the roof plane, replacing tiles or sheeting instead of being mounted above them.
AJ Field Group needed 250kWp of solar generation at Pentre Canol in Denbigh — a market town in the Vale of Clwyd, roughly 25 miles west of our Deeside base along the A55 and A525.
Denbighshire sits within some of the most attractive countryside in North Wales, bordering the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bolt-on rooftop arrays are perfectly effective, but they are also visible, and on a sensitive site the visual impact of a 250kWp array is a genuine planning and design consideration rather than an afterthought.
In-roof mounting solved it. Rather than sitting on rails above the existing covering, the panels form the weatherproof roof surface themselves, sitting flush within the roof plane. The result is considerably more discreet — and because the array replaces roofing material, it can reduce the overall material cost on a new-build or re-roof.
A 250kWp integrated array requiring roofing detail and electrical engineering in equal measure.
Installation of 250kWp of in-roof photovoltaic modules forming the roof covering itself, flush within the roof plane.
Flashing, trays and upstands detailed so the array is fully watertight — the discipline that separates in-roof from bolt-on installations.
DC string design, inverter arrangement, protection and connection, certified to BS 7671 by NICEIC approved electricians.
Commissioned and certified under MCS, the accreditation that unlocks export tariff eligibility.

A quarter of a megawatt of generation on site, offsetting bought-in electricity from the first day of commissioning.
Panels sitting flush in the roof plane rather than raised on rails — a far more sympathetic result in a sensitive rural setting.
Because in-roof modules replace roof covering, part of the array cost is offset against roofing material that no longer needs buying.
MCS certified and NICEIC approved installation with complete electrical certification on handover.
Denbigh sits in the Vale of Clwyd between the Clwydian Range and the Denbigh Moors, about 45 minutes from our base in Queensferry on Deeside via the A55 North Wales Expressway. It is comfortably within our core service area alongside St Asaph, Ruthin, Rhyl, Mold and Holywell.
Rural and semi-rural North Wales throws up exactly this kind of design problem: real energy costs to cut, but a landscape where appearance matters. In-roof systems, roof orientation studies and careful inverter siting are the tools that make solar work on sensitive sites rather than being refused on them.
