Sixty Bays, All Live at Once

Novuna needed the electrical infrastructure to support a 60-bay EV charging hub. Not the chargers themselves — the power to run them. Sixty 22kW connectors drawing simultaneously represents a demand no ordinary commercial supply can absorb, which put this firmly in dedicated-supply territory.

A project at this scale changes the nature of the work entirely. You are no longer specifying wall boxes; you are designing an LV switchroom, sizing switchgear, planning distribution runs across a site, and satisfying a Distribution Network Operator that a megavolt-ampere of new demand can be connected safely.

1MVA is roughly the electrical demand of a small industrial estate — delivered to a single car park, purely for charging vehicles.

This is precisely the kind of large-scale commercial EV charging installation that separates electrical contractors from charge point resellers. MARA has been NICEIC approved since 2010 and has delivered multi-megawatt commercial projects for names including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Primark and the Ministry of Defence — the same engineering discipline applied here to EV infrastructure.

Infrastructure Is the Hard Part

Most EV charging enquiries start with a question about chargers. At scale, the charger is the easy bit. What determines whether a 60-bay hub works is the supply behind it: whether the incoming capacity is genuinely there, whether the switchgear is specified correctly, whether the DNO will approve the connection, and whether the distribution has been designed for real simultaneous demand rather than optimistic averages.

Working from our base in Queensferry on Deeside — with the A494, A55 and the Flintshire Bridge putting most of North Wales and the North West within easy reach — we deliver this class of project across the region and well beyond it, having run commercial work as far as Manchester and Scotland.
