Design the Infrastructure, Then Get It Connected

AC Bacon Engineering — a long-established Norfolk steel-frame building manufacturer — needed the electrical infrastructure designed and installed for 165.6kWp of Kingspan Power Panel at Snetterton Business Park, just off the A11 between Attleborough and Thetford.

At this scale the panels are the straightforward part. The work that determines whether the system ever generates is everything behind them: the electrical system design, the protection, the metering, and critically the G99 grid connection application to the Distribution Network Operator.

Any commercial system above 3.68kW per phase needs G99 approval. Get that wrong and you have a very expensive roof covering that cannot legally export a single kilowatt.

Because this site sits in East Anglia, the DNO was UK Power Networks rather than SP Energy Networks or ENW that we deal with across North Wales and the North West. Different network operator, same process — application, technical review, witness testing and Approval to Connect.

Design, Installation & Grid Connection

The full electrical package behind 165.6kWp of rooftop generation.

Electrical System Design

Complete design of the electrical infrastructure supporting 165.6kWp of Kingspan Power Panel — cable sizing, protection, inverter arrangement and metering.

165.6kWp Power Panel

Electrical installation and connection of the Kingspan Power Panel array — an integrated roof and solar system rather than a retrofit mounting frame.

G99 Grid Connection

Grid connection application and approval with UK Power Networks, including the technical submission and Approval to Connect.

Testing & Commissioning

Full testing and commissioning to BS 7671 18th Edition, with certification issued on handover.

Snetterton Business Park Installation

Kingspan Power Panel installed across the roof, with the electrical infrastructure designed and connected by our team.

What AC Bacon Got

A fully designed, fully approved, fully generating commercial solar system.

165.6kWp Generating

A substantial rooftop array cutting bought-in electricity for an energy-intensive steel fabrication and business park operation.

G99 Approved & Connected

Grid connection secured with UK Power Networks — designed, submitted and approved, so the system exports legally and earns Smart Export Guarantee payments.

One Party Accountable

Electrical design, installation and grid connection delivered by a single contractor rather than split between a designer, an installer and a connection agent.

Delivered Nationally

Norfolk is a long way from Deeside — proof that our commercial solar capability travels, as it has to Southampton, Manchester and Scotland.

G99 Is Where Commercial Solar Succeeds or Stalls

Businesses looking at commercial solar tend to focus on panel count and payback. The step that most often delays a project is the grid connection. Every system above 3.68kW per phase needs a G99 application, and the DNO will assess whether the local network can absorb what you intend to export.

Handled properly — with the electrical design done first and the application submitted correctly — it is simply a process with a timescale. Handled badly, it becomes months of resubmissions with panels sitting on a roof doing nothing.

We manage G99 as standard on every commercial installation, whether the DNO is UK Power Networks in East Anglia or SP Energy Networks across North Wales and Cheshire. If you are weighing up commercial solar panel installation in Chester, Deeside, Wrexham or anywhere else, that process is part of the job, not an extra.
